When I first tried this game last night, I got the same error.  I calmly waited for the next day assuming that the service was down.  It still didn't work.  I searched the Internet and found that the problem was OLD and ongoing. 

Inexcusable.  I haven't even played the game yet since I purchased it to play with a friend online.  I have owned computers since 1985.  I have done my time tinkering with settings since I installed my first 5 MB hard drive.  Those days of spending an hour or two tinkering with settings are long gone for just playing games.  The online games that I bought in the last few years didn't have this problem.

If a company can't keep up, it needs to go out of business.  Don't support this company.  I know I won't.

well see i run on a wireless conenction and not even a month ago it worked just fine..... and if anyone wants to direct play (IP) if sins of solar empire has it add me on xfire or skype (skpye user: Drew Taylor----Xfire user:Darklazer)
